Heidi Shinn has been advocating for herself and her peers for decades. She knows what it takes to be a self-advocate, and she doesn’t hesitate to use her kind but confident voice to speak up for herself, or for others who need help in doing so. Because of her deep desire to give back to her community, she was highly involved for many years in AKtion Club, which is a service club run by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and it is sponsored by Kiwanis International. Heidi held multiple offices during her almost 20 years with AKtion Club, and she would be the first one to sign up to participate in a wide variety of service projects. Her big heart is what draws people to her. Heidi treats others with true compassion and empathy. Sheworks hard at her job and she’s someone you can always depend on. The world needs more kind, dedicated and capable people like Heidi, and we are thrilled to honor her as one of our 60 Voices that Shine.
