We are thrilled to honor Brent Belisle as one of our 60 Voices That Shine. His is a voice that does it all--educates, advocates, inspires, and brings sparkle to our lives. As a former independent-living advocate, Brent helped countless people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) achieve more independence in their lives. Lucky for us, he’s now our Community Outreach Coordinator (for more than 2 years), and he’s helping members of our community better understand both the challenges and the capabilities of people with I/DD. When Brent was born, the doctor told his parents that he would never walk, and that he would achieve very little in life. They gravely underestimated his potential, as was very common back then, and even now. “I am an individual with Cerebral palsy who lives, works and plays independently in our community, along with my able-bodied peers,” says Brent. Today, and every day, we celebrate the accomplished, well-loved person that he is!
